purpleheart persian blade

create a persian style blade using file steel, silver, and purpleheart wood.

crossed heart forge

1995 04 high carbon file steel, purpleheart wood, silver pins – 8″ blade, 13″ overall

design, forging, shaping, finishing

this project began as an independent study project for grade 12 art class.
i used a metal file as raw material and did most of the shaping through stock removal.
this is the first time i experimented with hand cut grooves and a real recurved cutting edge.
the slightly unokubi-zukuri blade would classify as a persian style and the handle has a coffin shape reminiscent of a classic bowie.
it was finished with a purpleheart wood handle pinned with silver and a purpleheart display stand.
