October 2007
Welcome to the October edition of the AIS Elementary newsletter!
We are having an exciting and challenging year!
Our Elementary theme words for the year are:
Tenderheart / Compassion
The verse for our theme is from Ephesians chapter 4 verse 32:
"Be kind to each other, tenderhearted and compassionate, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you."
Our slogan from the verse: "Be kind and compassionate"
This months events and announcements:
- Sports Day is on Monday, October 8th. It will be at ASCO Futsal Park Maya from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon. Wear your AIS t-shirt and sweatshirt, please bring your tea bottles and athletic footwear also. There will be no classes in the afternoon.
- We are going on a 'library tour' at Ashiya City Library on Wednesday, the 24th of October. It will be an interesting trip for those who will go to the library for the first time! Please remember to wear AIS sweatshirt for this trip, and the packet lunch will be provided for those who are on the lunch programme.
- The students have been doing very well with their calligraphy lesson! We are going to use ink for our calligraphy class on the 23rd of October, so please bring an old shirt to wear in the class!
- AIS elementary choir is honored to open for Lena Maria on October 16th at Hyogo Ken Kaikan at 1:45 pm. Students must wear AIS t-shirts / sweatshirts. ***It will take us extra time to return so all students will be back at the school by 3:30pm for pick up that day (instead of 3:00pm).
- First quarter progress reports will go home on the 31st. Please check out some of the work and information and send the portfolio back to school by the next week.
- By the end of this month, all students should be practicing home reading and spelling as well as other homework at least a few minutes every evening. The elementary department will send home information this month to help you start the healthy habit of regular home study time.
- Elementary artwork will be on display in an exhibit! The Association of Foreign Schools in Hyogo Prefecture will host our student's art at the Kinrou Kaikan from October 26th to November 9th.

Jesus taught us to pray...
Our Papa in heaven,
You are so good and very cool.
Help us show others that you love them,
and help us listen to you.
Give us what we need today.
Forgive us for our mistakes and selfishness
as we forgive others who hurt us.
Keep us from trouble
and protect us from danger.
Thank you!
