the main theme of this course is design...how to see it, understand it, and create it...in many different forms and styles

want to learn about graffiti and the hip hop culture that came out of it? canadian Native art styles and the traditions behind them? want to know more about careers in art and graphic design?

north america has many fun and interesting styles of art of our own...Learn the history and techniques behind uniquely north american styles of art ranging from traditional Native art originating on the west coast of canada to the urban art movement born to give voice to the youth of 1970's new york. the course will include plenty of hands-on work, several finished projects, and some research of artists, styles and techniques.

art is not just from europe, and its not just about history...art is happening here and now...be a part of it and explore art in north america! whether you have mad skillz or just a few ideas, are a budding graphic designer or a notebook doodler you will find and develop your artistic voice in this course...just bring a desire to learn and try new things!

About the Instructor

dave friesen has a BEd from the university of calgary. he taught kindergarten, elementary, and middle school for several years and currently works as a web and graphic designer and as a guest art teacher in Canada, USA, Japan, and Korea.
he loves to skateboard, skimboard, snowboard, and build and make stuff out of almost anything.
