    • Dates: Most Fridays from April 15-July 15 and September 2-September 16 (see schedule below)
    • Time: 1:00pm - 4:10pm

  3. Aims:

    This course looks at some of the current internet based tools related to connection, resources, and collaboration. The focus areas will be web and graphic design as well as communication and networking in the design industry.

  4. Objectives:

    By the end of this course, course members should be able to locate and use internet solutions for various design, collaboration, and social networking needs. They should understand the basic techniques of integrating these tools into their creative workflow or personal websites.

  5. Content and Schedule:

    This is a basic timeline that may be subject to change based on student ability and other pacing factors. See the calendar for details.

    • Week 1 (4/15): Resources Part 1 - world wide web, internet, browsers, html5
    • Week 2 (4/22): Connection Part 1 - email, gmail, twitter, micro blogging
    • Week 3 (5/6): Collaboration Part 1 - google docs, calendar, authentic jobs
    • Week 4 (5/13): Resources Part 2 - search, translate, calibrate
    • Week 5 (5/27): Connection Part 2 - social networks, artdesignlife/connect beta
    • Week 6 (6/3): Collaboration Part 2 - presentations, spreadsheets, conversion
    • Week 7 (6/10): Resources Part 3 - rss, readers, feedburner
    • Week 8 (6/17): Connection Part 3 - blogging, cms, wordpress.com/.org
    • Week 9 (6/24): Collaboration Part 3 - wikis, wikipedia
    • Week 10 (7/1): Resources Part 4 - opensource, online apps
    • Week 11 (7/8): Connection Part 4 - social bookmarking, del.icio.us
    • Week 12 (7/15): Collaboration Part 4 - color, code, project intro
    • Week 13 (9/2): Project Part 1 - student collaboration

  6. Texts:

    This course is internet and classroom based and there are no required texts.

  7. Assessment:

    This course is mainly assessed on a participatory level, though completion of the tasks is also required to build skills and progress through the course.

  8. Penalties:

    Assignments and tasks must be submitted by the due date. The main benefit of completion is to equip the student to move to the next task so there is no penalty but a reason must be provided in such circumstances.

  9. Relationship between course assessment and course objective:

    The tasks and class participation are designed to reinforce the instruction and are, therefore, integral to reaching the class objectives.

  10. Mandatory Course Requirements / Terms:

    • Participate in classroom activities
    • Complete the weekly tasks
    • Come to class prepared
    • Attend 14 of the 15 classes
